Quilts That Pop

“The power of color” guides quilt artist Liliane Sklenarik, who began quilting in 1988 and now showcases her vibrant work on her KaleidoQuilt website. Sklenarik has built a portfolio of quilt art that “’Pops’ when you look at it.”

Like many quilters, Sklenarik started out making bed quilts for family and friends, but over time, her focus shifted towards creative expression.

“I realized I NEEDED to make quilts as an artistic outlet,” she writes. “I wanted to make a wide variety, learning new techniques as I went along. I decided the best way to do this was make smaller sized quilts (wall hangings) so I could finish them quicker. My engineering background and love of colors meld together perfectly for quilting.”

Sklenarik’s designs range from geometric to representational, but all feature rich, vivid palettes, with inspirations including musicians, dancers, dolphins, and backyard chickens (at right).

For her husband Eddie’s birthday, she created a “Temperature Quilt” — an information graphic that uses colors to compare average monthly temperatures in his birth year and 2025, and reflects her stated mission to “fill the world with more bold, beautiful colors!“

When it’s time to display her work, Sklenarik has found that Gallery System Craft Hooks and Looped Cable Hangers for picture rail molding are helpful. “I am overjoyed with your products,” she says. “My husband installed the molding and the hangers were very easy to install and use. They give me the versatility I am looking for without marking up my walls. The products are very high quality and I love the look.”

Sklenarik’s work can be viewed and purchased via KaleidoQuilt’s gallery page.
